What is Kneipp Cure?

Being able to offer a hot/cold plunge pool, Infrared Sauna, and a variety of other therapies, I would like to introduce you to the Kneipp method. Kneipp is a traditional approach with which I grew up in my hometown of Bad Lausick. In our community, we have thoughtfully integrated cool water areas designed for walking through in the town’s open spaces, supporting recovery for all visitors attending one of the four renowned rehabilitation centres.

The Kneipp Cure is named after its founder, Sebastian Kneipp (1821–1897), a Bavarian priest and one of the pioneering figures in the naturopathic medicine movement. This therapy is a holistic system based on Kneipp’s teachings and includes five fundamental pillars: water treatments, exercise, nutrition, medicinal plants, and lifestyle practices, so all in all very similar to the Ayurvedic philosophy. The primary aim of this approach is to promote overall well-being by harmonising the body, mind, and soul, fostering long-term health and vitality.

The five pillars of the Kneipp cure in detail:

  • Water treatments (hydrotherapy): Contrast baths, showers, water treading, and other treatments with cold and warm water to stimulate circulation and strengthen the immune system.

  • Exercise: Targeted physical activities such as gymnastics, walks, swimming, or cycling to improve physical fitness and stimulate the metabolism.

  • Diet: A balanced and wholesome diet with plenty of fresh vegetables and fruit, regional and seasonal products, high-quality proteins and fats, and avoiding too much sugar and alcohol.

  • Medicinal plants: Use of herbs and plant extracts to relieve symptoms and support health.

  • Life order (order therapy): Promoting a regular daily routine, avoiding stress and hecticness, and creating peace and balance in everyday life.

The Kneipp cure is used both preventively and to treat various ailments.
